Korean Ground Beef over White Rice

Ingredients

Rice

  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Ground Beef Mix

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 4 cloves chopped garlic
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 6 green onions chopped, divided
  • 2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 1/2 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the rice by combining the rice, water, salt, and butter in a medium sized saucepan with a tight fitting lid. Heat to a boil, stir, place lid and reduce heat to low to simmer for 15 minutes.
  2. Prepare and measure the soy sauce, light brown sugar, chopped garlic, grated ginger, green onions, sesame oil, sesame seeds, and crushed red pepper flakes into prep bowls.
  3. Cook ground beef in a skillet and drain the fat.
  4. Add garlic, ginger, and sesame oil, stirring until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in soy sauce, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes and cook until some of the sauce absorbs into the beef.
  6. Add half of the chopped green onions and simmer 5 minutes.
  7. Serve over hot cooked rice and garnish with sesame seeds and remaining green onions.
