With a thin, crispy homemade crust as the base, it’s topped with a rich, savory Sloppy Joe mixture made from seasoned ground beef, ketchup, and spices. A generous layer of melted cheddar, with the option for mozzarella, adds cheesy goodness, while fresh bell pepper and red onion bring extra flavor and texture. For the Dough
1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
½ tsp salt
½ tsp sugar
1 tsp instant yeast
½ cup warm water (110°F)
1 tbsp olive oil

Fresh
1 pound ground beef
½ cup green or red bell pepper, chopped (optional)
¼ cup red onion, thinly sliced (optional)
Fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)

Packaged
½ cup ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ cup mozzarella cheese (optional)
1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking beef)

Seasoning
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon mustard
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon paprika
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
  • Add the warm water and olive oil and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, then place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled.
  • While the dough rises, chop the bell pepper and slice the red onion if using. Shred the cheeses and set aside.

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up, until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer until slightly thickened, then remove from heat.
  • Preheat the oven and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside if using.
  • Roll or stretch the risen dough into a round and transfer to parchment or a prepared pan.
  • Spread the beef mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Top with cheddar, mozzarella if using, and any vegetables.

Serving

  • Bake at 475 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and sprinkle with parsley if desired.
  • Slice and serve hot.
