Ingredients
For the Dough
1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon instant yeast
½ cup warm water (110°F)
1 tablespoon olive oil
Toppings
1 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking beef)
½ cup ketchup
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon mustard
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ cup mozzarella cheese (optional, for extra cheesy goodness)
½ cup green or red bell pepper, chopped (optional)
¼ cup red onion, thinly sliced (optional)
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Make the Dough
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Stir in warm water and olive oil until a shaggy dough forms. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Prepare the Beef Topping
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed. Reduce heat to medium and stir in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened, then remove from heat.
Assemble the Pizza
Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a stone or steel, place it in the oven now to preheat. Roll or stretch the dough into a 12-inch round. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet or pizza peel dusted with cornmeal. Spread the beef mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a border. Top with shredded cheddar, and add mozzarella, bell pepper, or red onion if desired.
Bake & Finish
Slide pizza into the oven and bake 10–12 minutes until crust is golden and cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from oven, sprinkle with parsley if using, slice, and serve hot.
Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small crumbles (about 6-8 minutes). Drain excess grease.
Add ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine. Simmer the mixture for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Remove from heat and set aside.
Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thinness. Transfer the rolled-out dough to a piece of parchment paper for easy handling. Squirt a desired amount of ketchup and yellow mustard over the dough.
Spread the Sloppy Joe mixture evenly over the rolled-out pizza dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
If using, add mozzarella cheese, bell pepper, and red onion.
Carefully transfer the pizza (using the parchment paper) onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and crispy and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
