For the Oats
1 cup water
1 cup whole milk
½ cup steel-cut oats
¼ teaspoon salt

Flavorings
1 tablespoon maple syrup
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix-Ins & Toppings
1 cup fresh blueberries
Sprinkle of ground cinnamon

Cook the Oats

  • In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup water, 1 cup whole milk, ½ cup steel-cut oats, and ¼ teaspoon salt.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Once it begins to boil, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for 20–25 minutes, stirring every few minutes to prevent sticking, until the oats are tender and the mixture has thickened to a creamy consistency.

Add the Flavorings

  • Once the oats are cooked, remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in 1 tablespoon maple syrup and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract.
  • Mix well so the sweetness and vanilla are evenly distributed throughout the oats.

Fold in the Blueberries

  • Gently stir in ½ cup of the fresh blueberries while the oats are still warm.
  • This allows some of the berries to soften and burst slightly, adding natural sweetness and color throughout the oatmeal.

Serve and Top

  • Divide the oatmeal into serving bowls and top with the remaining ½ cup fresh blueberries.
  • Finish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon over the top. Serve warm for a creamy, hearty breakfast with bursts of fresh blueberry flavor.
