Total Time

20 minutes

2 large eggs
1/2 cup orange juice
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
4 slices of bread (French bread, brioche, or your favorite type)
Butter or oil for cooking

Optional Toppings
Orange zest
Maple syrup
Powdered sugar
Fresh orange slices

Preparing the Custard
In a shallow bowl, whisk together 2 large eggs, ½ cup fresh-squeezed orange juice, ¼ cup milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional) until the mixture is smooth and well combined. The orange juice adds a bright citrus flavor while the eggs and milk create a rich custard that will soak into the bread.

Soaking the Bread
Place 4 slices of French bread, brioche, or your preferred bread into the custard mixture, allowing each slice to soak for about 15–20 seconds per side. Make sure the bread absorbs the mixture but doesn’t become overly saturated and fall apart.

Cooking the French Toast
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a small amount of butter or oil for cooking. Once hot, place the soaked bread slices into the pan and cook for about 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and slightly crisp on the outside while remaining soft inside. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning while ensuring the custard cooks through.

Finishing and Serving
Transfer the French toast to plates and finish with your desired toppings. Sprinkle with orange zest for extra citrus aroma, drizzle with maple syrup, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with fresh orange slices on the side for a bright, fresh contrast.
