  • 1 medium apple, peeled and shredded
  • 1/2 cup red cabbage, shredded
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Yield: Approximately 1 cup of relish, enough to top 4 hot dogs.


Prepare Apple:

  • Using a large-hole shredder, shred the peeled apple, working around the core.

Combine Ingredients:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine shredded apple and red cabbage.
  • Add brown sugar, mayonnaise, honey, apple cider vinegar, and salt to the bowl.

Mix Well:

  • Stir the mixture thoroughly until all ingredients are well-incorporated and the cabbage and apple are coated with the dressing.


  • Use the relish as a delightful topping for hot dogs, brats, or any other preferred grilled meats.


  • The relish can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator, covered, for up to two days. Be sure to stir it well before serving.
  • Adjust the sweetness or acidity to your liking by tweaking the amount of honey and vinegar.

Peel an apple and shred with a large cut shredder flipping the 4 sides to work toward the core.

Shred the red cabbage and add the brown sugar, mayo, honey, apple cider vinegar, and salt. Stir well and chill in the refrigerator up to an hour.

Makes  great topping for hot dogs or brats.
